Airport Security

Over the last few years the treat of terrorism has risen significantly and security within in airports has risen accordingly. When you think about the amount of people that pass through airports every single day and the numbers of whom congregate there or on airliners, it is apparent how the risk of terrorism is so great in these places.

As such airports have two main targets in there security plans. Firstly, to prevent attacks on the airport and secondly to protect the actual aircrafts. If the security officer can prevent a potential terrorist from bringing a weapon or explosives in to the airport then this is the first line of defense secured. This means that the chances of the terrorist being able to get the device on the plane is that much smaller.

The security measures employed at each airport vary and this is the same where staff are concerned as well. Some airports have a permanent body of uniformed officers based at the airport, while others leave it to local or regional resources to supply staff. There are a vary of different security based personnel that may work at the airport. These could be:-

Police officers - some of these may be based at the airport of sent to work there as an assignment.

Military personnel - this could also be from a paramilitary source.

Police dogs - these dogs are specially trained for security purposes and can detect explosives, drugs and other materials used with criminal intent.
